Top ranked riders will be in close
combat in the next stage of the
championship race today as World No1
and Longines Global Champions Tour
overall leader Scott Brash fights to
hold on to his lead.
Today’s Grand Prix presented by
retail giant H&M will be a fierce
battle at the big, lush 150x80m
Derby show ground in Hamburg with 40
ranking points to the winner and a
prize purse of €300,000.
Great Britain’s Olympic team gold
medallist will facing competition
from some of Germany’s modern greats
like current World No2 Daniel
Deusser, Christian Ahlmann,
Hans-Dieter Dreher and show jumping
maestro Ludger Beerbaum. America’s
Kent Farrington, on Voyeur and
Lauren Hough, on Ohlala, will be in
determined form.
Portugal’s Luciana Diniz, victorious
yesterday in the 5* 1.50m class, is
only 10 points behind Brash in the
overall 2015 ranking and will be
riding her stunning grey stallion
Winningmood, with whom she won the
Grand Prix in Madrid only two weeks
ago. Close behind
Luciana in 3rd place on 88 points is
Switzerland’s on form Pius Schwizer,
who won an earlier class in Hamburg,
and as he revealed this week his
“dream” is to win the 2015 LGCT
series. Bassem
Hassan Mohammed, Henrik von
Eckermann, Pieter Devos, Hans-Dieter
Dreher, Sheikh Ali Bin Khalid Al
Thani and Christian Ahlmann are all
in the ranking Top 10 and all in
Hamburg on the warpath.
There is no shortage of supersonic
horse power here in Hamburg. The
World’s No1 horse Hello Sanctos
leads the charge along with Cornet
D’Amour, Plot Blue, Casall Ask,
Codex One, Chiara and Embassy II.
The arrival of the Longines Global
Champions Tour in Hamburg for the
5th leg of the series has attracted
over 400 horses with amateur riders
enjoying the experience of competing
at the same venue as the world’s
best. Also top riders are able to
take part in the competitions for
Young Horses.

Portugal's
Luciana Diniz threw down the
gauntlet to Longines Global
Champions Tour ranking leader Scott
Brash today in the battle for the
championship.
Luciana is only
10 points behind Scott in the
overall ranking and could overtake
the British rider in tomorrow's
Grand Prix presented by H&M at the
big Hamburg Derby show ground.
Luciana Diniz set
off like a rocket on the nine year
old Sakann to win this afternoon’s
CSI5* class by almost two seconds.
Italy’s Andre Sakakini set a good
early pace over Frank Rothenburger’s
forward flowing course clocking a
time of 60.03 seconds.
There were a host
of clears to follow, but none to
match Andre’s time until Luciana’s
winning round towards the end of the
class. With plenty of ground to
cover between the fences in
Hamburg’s large Derby arena, Luciana
meant business, galloping on and
turning tightly aboard the nimble
Sakkan to finish on a time of 58.43.
After the prize
giving Luciana said: "It was so
inspiring today. My son called me
and said Mama I just won my tennis
game and now you win this class. And
I said I am going to win for you. It
is always good to win before the
Grand Prix."
Luciana will be
riding her star grey stallion,
Winningmood, recent winner of the
Grand Prix at the Longines Global
Champions Tour of Madrid, in
tomorrow’s feature, the Longines
Global Champions Tour of Hamburg
Grand Prix presented by H&M.
Luciana has been
a solid performer in the Longines
Global Champions Tour overall
ranking for the past few season
finishing 9th last year and 7th in
2013.
Scott will be
riding his Olympic gold medal
winning champion and World No1 horse
Hello Sanctos and will be determined
to hold on to his overall ranking
lead.

Pius Schwizer
threw down the gauntlet today and
declared his dream is to win the
2015 Longines Global Champions Tour
series.
He spoke after
winning the Mercedes-Benz Championat
von Hamburg aboard the 10 year old
mare Amira. Pius set a strong early
pace in the 17 horse jump-off, as
fourth to go he made the most of
Frank Rothenburger’s galloping
course, starting strongly and making
all turns to finish clear in a very
fast time of 41.63 seconds.
Incentivised by
the €59,000 Mercedes-Benz on offer
for the winner, the world’s top
riders were in a determined mood to
try to catch him. Christian Ahlmann,
victorious in the Longines Global
Champions Tour of Hamburg Grand Prix
two years ago, mounted a strong
challenge in front of the packed
grandstand. Pushing on between
fences and mastering the tight turn
to the penultimate vertical the
crowd thought he had done enough,
cheering their countryman home,
however his time of 42.03 seconds
went into second place.
Last to go,
four-time Olympic gold medallist
Ludger Beerbaum, on the mighty
Chaman looked like he might place
the leader’s position in jeopardy,
however despite a masterful display
of show jumping, he could only
manage third position with a time of
42.42.
Speaking after
the class, a jubilant Pius said: “I
am the third ranked rider on the
Longines Global Champions Tour
leaderboard since the last stage in
Shanghai and I have a lot of good
horses this season so the dream is
to win the 2015 series.” The feature
Longines Global Champions Tour of
Hamburg Grand Prix presented by H&M
will take place on Saturday with the
world’s best riders, including Pius,
all vying to usurp world No1 Scott
Brash at the top of the leaderboard.

Longines
Global Champions Tour ranking
leader and World No1 Scott Brash
will be in Hamburg and up
against a heavyweight opposition
as he battles to hold on to his
No1 spot.
Brash will be
riding Hello Sanctos, now the
world’s No1 horse, at the event
where retail giant H&M will be
presenting sponsor of the Grand
Prix for the first time. But he
will come up against a
determined onslaught from home
riders including Daniel Deusser,
Ludger, Beerbaum, Marcus Ehning
and Hans-Dieter Dreher.
Deusser, No2
in the World Ranking, will be
gunning for a big win on home
territory in Hamburg, which
attracted more than 85,000
spectators last year. Daniel
will have his star horse Cornet
D’Amour at the event.
The big grass
Derby arena will again be a
stiff test for the world’s top
riders and today Volker Wulff,
co-organiser with Longines
Global Champions Tour, said:
“The Longines Global Champions
Tour Grand Prix presented by H&M
on Saturday will bring the best
riders in the world to Hamburg.
The 4th leg of the Tour just
ended in Shanghai last week and
it’s a true privilege that these
top riders come directly here to
our show. We are glad to have a
new presenting sponsor of the
Grand Prix from Scandinavia, the
popular fashion label H&M.
Because of its connection with
fashion, H&M will present the
"best style" prize on Sunday
after the Derby.”
Among the
starry array of horse power at
the event will be Aragon Z,
Winningmood, Chaman, Plot Blue,
Casall Ask, Voyeur and Ohlala.
Local hero
Daniel Deusser recently spoke
about the Longines Global
Champions Tour’s revolutionary
impact on show jumping and about
becoming a dad for the first
time admitting: “Horses no
longer have first priority.”
Speaking
about the Tour he said: “We
start at the most important and
famous locations all over the
world. This is incredibly
attractive, also for the
spectators. For example, they
stand in the middle of
metropolitan Paris under the
Eiffel Tower and watch show
jumping. This increases the
reputation of the equestrian
sport. On top of that, there is
attractive, very high prize
money.”
Brash is
currently leading the ranking on
105 points and is 10 points
ahead of Luciana Diniz from
Portugal. Switzerland’s Pius
Schwizer is in third on 88
points after a highly successful
outing in Shanghai last weekend
and Bassem Hassan Mohammed of
Qatar is in fourth place on 66
points. With 40 points up for
grabs for the winner the stakes
will be high at the famous Derby
arena in Hamburg.
