On Saturday 27th of August LAV began work in the areas
hit by the earthquake in the province of Rieti with the help
and support of the State Forestry Corps (Italian police
agency for the environment and animals) aided by two
vehicles, one of which specifically for animal
transportation, two veterinarians, a dog trainer, three
experts in dogs, cats and other animals.
LAV’s operational headquarters is at the State Forestry
Corps School of Cittaducale (province of Rieti) but it is at
the disposal of all Civil Defense agencies, governmental
authorities, municipalities, veterinarian structures and
private citizens.
From the start LAV has been focused on answering primary
calls for help, recruiting volunteers and professionals and
contacting institutions in order to provide relief and
technical support to people and their pets, be them lost,
hurt, gone missing or stray. Focus has also been put on
facilitating conditions in the various day and night
shelters so as to establish a strong basis for the
implementation in the coming months of the medium-term
project once coverage of this terrible tragedy will have
died down, just as LAV has done in L’Aquila in the past
years.
LAV is able to operate in the areas hit by the earthquake
thanks to the 5x1000 funds that it receives and calls for
the support and contribution of everyone. LAV handles
donations of tinned animal food, dry food dispensers, pet
carriers of various sizes, food bowls, harnesses/leashes,
collars, litter boxes and pet litter, cages-traps, microchip
scanners, enclosures, medicine and pile blankets.
For donations from abroad: swift code: C C R T I T 2 T 8
4 A – Reason for payment: earthquake animal emergency.
We wish to thank those who have already made contributions
of any kind as well as those who will be doing so in the
future.
