Dominique Boeuf takes the Championship

The International Jockeys Challenge was marked this year by the participation of 11 times British Champion Jockey, Pat Eddery, who was to retire after his final competitive rides in Mauritius. With about 4,600 wins, Eddery tasted success in every country he had ridden except at the Champ de Mars, the oldest racecourse in the Southern hemisphere. Eddery’s aim was to score at least one in Mauritius before stepping down.

In temperature nearing the 33 degrees celcius, the Champ de Mars attracted an estimated crowd of about 32,000 people. The card promised thrilling races and the entertainment was minutely organised by the Mauritius Turf Club throughout the day. The tenth International Jockeys Day was jointly sponsored by Air Mauritius and Beau Rivage Hotel and 17 overseas jockeys were invited to attend the event. Jeffrey Lloyd, mauritian champion jockey for the second consecutive year, represented South Africa, while Yashin Emamdee was the mauritian representative.

The Mauritius Turf Club invited 9 Young Stars to compete in a Young Star Competition. South African, Marco Van Rensburg, and Nishal Teeha, from Mauritius, finished dead heat in first place with 16 points each. French jockey, Dominique Boeuf, won a double at the close of the day to snatch the title from British jockey, Darryll Holland. Boeuf won a hard fought battle on Atlantic Mist and showed his impressive jockeyship on Moyenne in the final race of the day. 3rd in the French Championship this year, Boeuf who was at his second participation this year in Mauritius, had a pillar to post win on Atlantic Mist. The grey travelled untroubled throughout the race and resisted the 5/2 favourite President Bill ridden by Y. Emamdee to give the Frenchman his first mauritian win. Holland started the day with an impressive finish on Market Research in the second race. In a thrilling finish, Holland just managed to snatch victory from Liszka, ridden by Y. Emamdee. The British Champion Jockey managed a double on Fashion Editor, in the fifth race. Showing great skill and flair, Holland waited patiently for the final straight to quicken his mount. The latter responded admirably and won in comfortable style. Emamdee himself was rewarded for all his hard work with a fantastic win on Boomerang depriving Pat Eddery his much sought win on 10/3 favourite Milad. Despite coming back without a win, Eddery was given a standing ovation by the mauritian public for his outstanding career.

Les courses de chevaux en Suisse sont l'objet d'un engouement constant depuis près d'un siècle en Suisse romande et en Suisse alémanique. Dans les trois disciplines, le programme offre des opportunités intéressantes à des concurrents étrangers en quête d'une notoriété internationale. En plat notamment, on court régulièrement  à un très bon niveau, et des galopeurs de valeur "courses de groupe" viennent de tous pays avoisinants pour tenter de remporter le très convoité Grand Prix de Saint-Moritz en hiver sur la neige, et le classique SWISS DERBY de Frauenfeld de la mi-juin.

Victoire la plus récente: The Breeders Cup Turf (26 octobre 2002)

Après avoir remporté le Racing Post Trophy à Doncaster en 2001, Kevin Darley, jockey de HIGH CHAPARRAL, déclarait: "Je pense qu'il va s'améliorer, et qu'un très brillant avenir l'attend". Darley avait vu juste. HIGH CHAPARRAL nous a montré le 26 octobre 2002 à Arlington Park qu'il est un cheval d'exception. Ce cheval entraîné par O'Brien  a prouvé sa résistance et une classe suffisante pour battre les meilleurs, ce qu'il fait désormais dans un style éblouissant. Son entraîneur n'a pas tari d'éloges à son sujet:"il est sorti de la scène cette saison en prouvant une classe énorme, et il restera à l'entraînement l'année prochaine, en 2003. Il a les qualités d'une superstar !!" HIGH CHAPARRAL n'était que le 15e cheval à qui le doublé Derby d'Epsom- Derby d'Irlande a réussi. Le jockey M.Kinane, son partenaire lors de ses deux derniers succès a aussi déclaré haut et fort:"quel cheval de classe !!" HIGH CHAPARRAL a battu sa compagne d'entraînement HAWK WING en début de saison 2002 à Epsom pour gratifier l'entraîneur irlandais Aidan O'Brien d'une première et d'une seconde place  à l'arrivée, et d'une seconde victoire dans le VODAFONE DERBY. Le poulain de 3 ans est aussi à créditer d'une prestigieuse troisième place dans l'Arc de Triomphe, le 6 octobre 2002, à Paris.

ASCOT Le 28 juillet 2001 - neber dem ziel

Galileo – Fantastic Light oder das Paar der Saison in Europa. Das Duo konnte einen erneuten Doppelsieg bei der Ankunft des Irish Champion Stakes (Gruppe I, 2000 m) in Leopardstown verbuchen, jedoch in umgekehrter Reihenfolge als bei den King Georges And Queen Elisabeth Stakes (Gruppe I, 2400 m) im Juli in Ascot (siehe Foto).
Galileo wollte natürlich seine Revanche während des nächsten Zusammentreffens, 3 Monate später, anlässlich des Breeders'Cup in den Vereinigten Staaten.
Obwohl die Siegesprämie um die Hälfte tiefer war, zogen die Manager von Fantastic Light klugerweise den Breeders'Cup Turf vor und das Duell fand nicht statt. Auf der Sandbahn von Belmont Park konnte Galileo nicht überzeugen und wurde sechster hinter Tiznow.
Während einer Auktion am Freitag, 30. November 2001 in Tattersalls von Newmark ging eine Schwester von Galileo (Sadler's Wells – Urban Sea) für die Summe von 1,1 Mio. Guineen (2 Mio. US$) an John Magnier und sein Gestüt in Coolmore.
