Top meeting at Zurich
It was a big first in showjumping: during the Swiss Life CSI at
Zurich, the Olympic Games winner, the World Champion, the World
Cup winner and the European Champion, who is also "World Number
1" met eachother in a confrontation on the ground.
"Swiss Life Challenge" was the name of this combat of giants
which had been conceived according to the principle of
exchanging horses between the competitors as has been done when
competing for the individual title of World Showjumping Champion
since 1953. In Zürich the was no title at stake, but for the
four participants Jeroen Dubbeldam, Rodrigo Pessoa, Ludger
Beerbaum, and Markus Fuchs, a lot of prestige was at stake, as
well as... 350'000 euros !!! After 16 rounds, Beerbaum and
Dubbeldamm were equal, and only the jump off was able to give
the advantage to the 38-yaear-old German.
Beerbaum again showed his supremacy in Zürich with other horses
such as Goldfever, Champion du Lys and Figaro's Boy. In
particular he defended his title successfully in the Zürcher
Classic, the most richly adorned indoor event in the world at
250'000 euros.
It was a performance completely worthy of a World Championship,
In second position, the German Suzanne Behring achieved the
greatest success of her career. Suzanne Behring has been trainer
at the Liebherr stable in Bulle for 7 years.
