THE LION’S SHARE FOR THE AMERICAN BLOODLINES
The old good italian stocks aren’t they a winner anymore ?
Anyway, the native american origins were in favour with the
operators during these yearly auctions of yearlings trotters.
Racehorse-broker in the disciplines the most varied, but above all specialized in trotters, Jamil Boukarabila was analizing in this way the Italian market’s movements:
"In Europe, we can observe a certain americanization of the breeding system since nearly twenty years, but nevertheless in a crescendo. In France, Jean-Pierre Dubois is doing like this since quite a time with his young stallions; well actually he is trying to introduce as quick as possible the usual performers in the breeding cycle. In Italy, it works quite differently in the sense that young native trotters of the stakes level can win more money on racecourses than in the stud farm, because the important horse breeders rather prefer them more and more native American stallions in fashion in the USA. Therefore, we find only few Italian stallions among the fathers of the yearlings best sold. And the current trend is speeding up in the direction of very young stallions from accross the Atlantic with ultra-classical career imperatively typified in the Hambletonian, as for MUSCLES YANKEE and MALABAR MAN."
MUSCLES YANKEE SIGNS THE TWO TOP-PRICES
The napolitan horse breeding of Maria Del Vecchio has won the
prize and honours thanks to EVEREST DVS
sold
120'000 euros
to a new association, the racing stable Scuderia De Matteo/Scuderia
Dupont. This son of MUSCLES YANKEE
(Valley
Victory-Maiden
Yankee-Speedy
Crown)
comes from a confirmed brood mare, NAAKA AS (by the breed leader Sharif di
Iesolo). NAAKA AS
practically scored every time, as with 7 offsprings, it has
given 5 racehorses, whose VOLTURNO AS 1'15"- 81'000 euros and above all ANTARTIDE
DVS
1'14" at 3 years, classical. A distinctive feature of NAAKA AS
is thas it has been presented to 5 different American
stallions with excellent results every time. It represents a
thorough founder of the breeding Allevamento La Serenissima of
Carlo Pietrasanta that, together with ELENA AS,
second mother of the yearling, rely on one of the best
reproductive stud mare of the Italian stud-book. Indeed, ELENA AS
1'16" (1982, by Nazionale) has given the classicals ULENA AS
1'13"-
425'000 euros,
and
BOLENA AS 1'13" at 3 years - 133'000
euros
winnings.
The second best prize of the auction has been realized by the racing stable Scuderia La Passera of Varese, in the north of the country. Its favourite ESCUDO BY PASS, still by MUSCLES YANKEE, vaunts great stallions as fathers of its three first stud mares : JOIE DE VIE, SPEEDY CROWN, B.F.COALTOWN, but the fancy of the bidders is mainly explained by the second and third stud mares themselves, respectively CROWN DREAM (mother and grandmother of the two trotters in 1'10") and VIVA HILL, stud mare of the sixteen offsprings whose the stallion CROWN'S CRISTY and several horses in 1'15" during the 70’s in the USA. The three younger brothers of ESCUDO BY PASS won in 1’16’’, influencing the racing stable Scuderia Veluca in occasion of the signing of its cheque for 105'000 euros. MUSCLES YANKEE makes itself conspicuous too with ECHITA DEL RIO, the most expensive female of the auctions with 60'000 euros.
SUPERGILL BEST STALLION IN EUROPE
Signing the 3rd and 5th yearlings in the
ranking of the best sold, in addition to a row of others
located in the bracket 20'000 à 60'000
euros, SUPERGILL (Super
Bowl-Winky's
Gill-Bonefish) is asserting
itself as a very lucrative stallion for the whole bracket, all
the more since the author of the foals that precede it
officiates in the United States. The danger was rather coming
from its own sons MALABAR MAN (father of a foal
sold
82'000 euros)
then TOSS
OUT very well represented (with
21 entrants) and whose first generation includes the favourite
of the next Derby: CHEROKEE CHIEF 1'12" at 3 years.
Despite its sons with sights fixed high, SUPERGILL seems assured to realize still some fine seasons at the top of the studhorses in Italy. It was represented in the Settimo Milanese by 31 yearlings !!
