Reliable Man beats Bubble Chic in Grand Prix du Jockey Club 2011
The two classics Prix du Jockey Club, and de Diane 2011 have just been run on the splendid “Princes de Condé” racecourse, at Chantilly. In the Prix du Jockey Club, the boarder of Alain de Royer-Dupré, Reliable Man managed to remain unbeaten for his third public outing, safely dominating Bubble Chic and the unfortunate Baraan who lost precious lengths at the start. The property of Pride Racing Club, Reliable Man was ridden by Gérald Mossé. Reliable Man succeeds his father Dalakhani who also won the Prix du Jockey Club. A Dalakhani who is also the father of Baraan, while Bubble Chic is by Chichicastenango, who was second to Anabaa Blue, beaten by little, in the 2001 version of the “Derby de Chantilly”. We may add that Sadler’s Wells, the father of Reliable Man’s mother, came in second to Darshaan, father of Dalakhani,
in the famous Jockey Club of 1984,
where the third was Rainbow Quest.
What a finish !!
Golden Lilac wins the Prix de Diane (Groupe I) at Chantilly- june 2011
In the Prix de Diane, Golden Lilac imposed the law on Galikova. Both daughters of champion stallion Galileo, they gathered numerous votes and were the favourites for the race, the preference of the betters, however, just went to Galikova, the younger sister of the exceptional Goldikova. But Golden Lilac managed to preserve her invicibility, like Reliable Man a week before. By doing this, she won her fifth victory, at the same time as achieving the prestigious double of the “Poule d’Essai des Pouliches” and the “Prix de Diane”. Owned by her breeder, Gestüt Ammerland and prepared by André Fabre, Golden Lilac was ridden by Maxime Guyon. Her performance surpasses that of her mother the excellent Grey Lilas, “only” second in the Poule d’Essai and third in the Prix de Diane. Grey Lilas is by the top stallion Danehill, whose meeting with Galileo also produced the formidable Frankel, who showed himself to be, once again, untouchable, last week, at Royal Ascot.

Sheikh Hamdan bin
Rashid Al Maktoum is a great racing
enthusiast everybody knows. Most in the
public eye at all great places in the
world, his colours distinguishes itself
notably in France, where, in a just
recurrence of things the animator of
Shadwell likes to go shopping as far as
yearlings go. This war again the case
last summer 2009, at Deauville where
Shadwell France was the number one buyer
at the Arquana sales, picking up twenty
horses, for a total of 4,190,000 euros.
In the company of his advisor and
manager of hiss taff, Angus Gold, Sheikh
Hamdan visited himself the lots which
interested him and made his choice
knowing well his cause, in particular
descendents of Green Desert, Cape
Cross, Motivator, Invincible Spirit,
Oasis Dream, Medicean, Dalakhani, Anabaa,
Elusive City, etc… He agreed to pay
his top price of 460,000 Euros for a
stallion out of Green Desert , a
three quarter brother of his champion as
a 2 years old Naaqoos (Grand
Critérium 2008), knowing that he kept
him as a stallion in France, at 6000
Euros fee, in the framework of his first
season at Haras du Mézeray (Orne).
In 2009, Sheikh
Hamdan’s colours were, for the rest,
completely successful on French soil,
where, if Naaqoos did not manage
to repeat what he did as a 2 y.o., there
was Aqlaam, winner of the Prix du
Moulin de Longchamp, Groupe I, and
Arcano, hero of the Prix de Morny,
Groupe I.
If Sheikh Hamdan is,
firstly, of more anglo-saxon mentality,
France is also a chosen land for his
racehorses in the same way as the whole
of Europe, where Shadwell holds a good
part of his references, in races as well
as breeding.

Dominique Boeuf takes the Championship
The International Jockeys Challenge was marked this year by
the participation of 11 times British Champion Jockey, Pat
Eddery, who was to retire after his final competitive rides in
Mauritius. With about 4,600 wins, Eddery tasted success in every
country he had ridden except at the Champ de Mars, the oldest
racecourse in the Southern hemisphere. Eddery’s aim was to score
at least one in Mauritius before stepping down.

As
the photo nearby shows it, the atmosphere
was excellent at Mauritius.
In temperature nearing the 33 degrees celcius, the Champ de
Mars attracted an estimated crowd of about 32,000 people. The
card promised thrilling races and the entertainment was minutely
organised by the Mauritius Turf Club throughout the day. The
tenth International Jockeys Day was jointly sponsored by Air
Mauritius and Beau Rivage Hotel and 17 overseas jockeys were
invited to attend the event. Jeffrey Lloyd, mauritian champion
jockey for the second consecutive year, represented South
Africa, while Yashin Emamdee was the mauritian representative.
The Mauritius Turf Club invited 9 Young Stars to compete in a
Young Star Competition. South African, Marco Van Rensburg, and
Nishal Teeha, from Mauritius, finished dead heat in first place
with 16 points each. French jockey, Dominique Boeuf, won a
double at the close of the day to snatch the title from British
jockey, Darryll Holland. Boeuf won a hard fought battle on
Atlantic Mist and showed his impressive jockeyship on Moyenne in
the final race of the day. 3rd in the French Championship this
year, Boeuf who was at his second participation this year in
Mauritius, had a pillar to post win on Atlantic Mist. The grey
travelled untroubled throughout the race and resisted the 5/2
favourite President Bill ridden by Y. Emamdee to give the
Frenchman his first mauritian win. Holland started the day with
an impressive finish on Market Research in the second race. In a
thrilling finish, Holland just managed to snatch victory from
Liszka, ridden by Y. Emamdee. The British Champion Jockey
managed a double on Fashion Editor, in the fifth race. Showing
great skill and flair, Holland waited patiently for the final
straight to quicken his mount. The latter responded admirably
and won in comfortable style. Emamdee himself was rewarded for
all his hard work with a fantastic win on Boomerang depriving
Pat Eddery his much sought win on 10/3 favourite Milad. Despite
coming back without a win, Eddery was given a standing ovation
by the mauritian public for his outstanding career.

High
Chaparral (IRE)
3-y-o [1 March 1999] bc
Sadler’s Well (USA)- Kasora (IRE) (Darshaan)
(270,000 gns): second foal: half brother to Irish 1m winner
Oriental Ben (by Ridgewood Ben): dam: unraced, out of high
class French 1m to 12f performer Kozana.
Current Owner: M Tabor & Mrs. John Magnier
Current Trainer: A P O’Brien
Breeder: S Coughlan
Most recent win: The Breeders Cup Turf (26 October 2002)
After winning the Racing Post Trophy at Doncaster in 2001, Kevin
Darley, rider of High Chaparral said: “I think he’ll
improve and he has a very, very bright future.” Darley could not
have been more right. High Chaparral has shown on the 26
October 2002 at Arlington Park in the United States that he is
an outstanding horse. The O’Brien-trained horse has proven that
he has the stamina and class to compete at the highest level and
do so in the most dazzling fashion. His trainer did not spare
the flattering words he well deserved: “He came out with an
awful lot of class and he will be back next year…He has the
qualities of a superstar.” High Chaparral was only the 15th
horse to complete the Epsom- Curragh Derby double earlier this
year. Jockey M. Kinane who has been associated with the 3 year
old for his last two wins, also commented highly of the
Breeder’s Cup Turf winner: “He is a very high class colt.”
High Chaparral defeated stablemate Hawk Wing in Epsom
earlier this year to give Irish trainer Aidan O’Brien a one-two
and his second consecutive win in the Vodafone Derby. The
3 year old went on to take third place in the Arc de Triomphe in
Paris, on the 6th October.

ASCOT
28 July 2001 – Near the winning post!
Galileo
- Fantastic Light
or the duo of the season in Europe, that has just published a
new twinning at the arrival of the Irish Champion Stakes (group
l, 2000 metres) in Leopardstown, but in the opposite order of
the one noticed during the King Georges And Queen Elisabeth
Stakes (group l, 2400 metres), in July, in Ascot (our
photography).
Galileo
certainly intended to take his revenge at the time of their next
confrontation, on the occasion of the Breeders'Cup, in the
United States 3 months later.
But the
Fantastic Light managers that decided with great wisdom
for the Breeders'Cup Turf despite a half lower allowance to the
winner, prevent the duel from taking place, and Galileo did not succeed in showing off to
advantage on the dirt of Belmont Park, arriving 6th
of Tiznow.
Friday 30 November 2001 at the Tattersalls
auctions of Newmarket, a own sister of
Galileo (Sadler's
Wells - Urban Sea)
has been sold for 1,1 million guineas (2 millions USD) to
John Magnier and his Coolmore stud farm.
